Sidewalking
Street and Urban Details
A collection of photographs by William Petrovic will be on display
from 1 April to 13 May at The Ainsworth-Gallery 721 Taylor Street in
Joliet. There will be an opening reception for the artist on 2 April
from 7:00 to 9:00pm. This one man show will be Petrovic’s second
professional exhibit.
This portfolio shows the city from a variety of views. You see the
grit and the gloss. Cityscapes with breathtaking drama mixed with up
close and personal human interest images. All hours of the day and
night; sunlight, moonlight, and streetlight are reflected and
absorbed by every surface. Petrovic hunts for the details that most
people never notice. You can see in his work that he loves the city
(warts and all). If you study these images you can almost hear and
smell the scenes he has captured.
Petrovic’s goal has been to document the urban landscape from an
artistic point of view. He has studied and developed his craft with
great patience. Occasionally when making a final print he would
notice an element that distracted the viewer from the original
message. His solution was always the same. He would make plans to
retake the image. The thirty prints in this exhibit have been edited
from hundreds of images made over many years.
Bill Petrovic is a long time local resident, he graduated from
Joliet Central H.S. and studied art at Joliet Junior College and
Columbia College in Chicago.
The Ainsworth-Gallery, Joliet’s oldest commercial art gallery
