Gallery – 7 Receives Award

The Owners and Managers Association, a division of the Joliet City Center Partnership has chosen Gallery – 7 to receive an award recognizing “Outstanding property improvement and adding to the positive atmosphere in downtown Joliet.”

Thomas J. Mahalik, Vice President for City Center Marketing, said “Over the course of the last few years, Gallery – 7 has turned a dark, dirty, less than ideal storage space into a beautiful art gallery that anyone would be proud to visit.”

The purpose of the Owners and Managers Association is to provide an open forum for downtown Joliet business owners and managers to discuss ideas, and to keep them informed of what is going on downtown. Because of all the wonderful improvements many of the downtown businesses have made recently, the committee decided to begin a program of Property Improvement Awards, as a way of recognizing the efforts of these businesses to ‘market their product’ through those enhancements.

At a recent Owners and Managers Association meeting, the names of several downtown businesses were discussed as potential candidates for this award, and the committee unanimously chose Gallery – 7 to receive the first Property Improvement Award.

Gallery – 7 was founded in June 2007 as part of the Rialto Arts District, and moved into its’ present space at 116 North Chicago Street, Suite 102, (next to the historic Rialto theater) in January 2009. Renovations began immediately and have been ongoing ever since. Gallery – 7 is an artist’s co-op dedicated to displaying and promoting the work of its’ members who all live in the Joliet area. The gallery recently began to feature professional artists from the greater Chicago area. The gallery is preparing to host its second national competition exhibit ‘Open Lens II’ this June. Regular business hours for Gallery - 7 are 11:00 – 2:00, Monday-Friday. To arrange an evening or weekend visit, phone 815 726-1840. All artwork exhibited at Gallery - 7 is for sale.
